Tony Monsanto – 1946-2014

With great sadness in our hearts we hereby announce that Curacao has lost one of his most passionate painters. After ardently fighting against the effects of cancer Tony Monsanto passed away last Saturday 25th.

Our thoughts are with his wife Christel, and his son and daughter, Raphael and Laila.

New crew member: Thamara Vervuurt

Since funding and sponsoring is a special kind of skill, we have been spending some time finding the right person for this task. We are very happy to announce that mediator and project manager Thamara Vervuurt is ready, willing and able to advocate for us on this challenging task.

Thamara studied Social Care Services in the Netherlands. After graduating she worked at the municipality museum of Delft where she strengthened the Presentation and Communication department of the museum by developing and organizing educational programs. In 2006 Thamara relocated to Curacao where she started working on similar project for the Curacao Museum. Recently she started working as an independent mediator and project manager and we are very happy to welcome her to our team!

The Making of…

In 2013 Tony Monsanto started working with art-historians, critics and curators Nancy Hoffmann (The Netherlands), Jennifer Smit (Curacao) and José-Manuel Noceda (Cuba) on the preparations for a monograph on the last three decades of his work. Dutch language academic, Yorgos Mayenburg, conducted a large interview with the artist on his life and work, while in the mean time the authors mentioned above started writing essays on different aspects of Monsanto’s work.

Dutch graphic designer Stephan de Smet – well-known for designing publications and corporate logo’s for the cultural field – was attracted to think about the design for Monsanto’s monograph. Most parts are starting to come together, but there is still a lot of work to be done. This website was created to keep you informed on the developments and provide you with little ‘sneak previews’ on this publication…
